IN THIS GALLERY I PRESENT A VARIETY OF BIRDS AND ANIMALS, MANY OF WHICH WERE PHOTOGRAPHED IN SISKIYOU COUNTY, CA. ALL OF THESE CREATURES (EXCEPT ZOO ANIMALS) WERE PHOTOGRAPHED IN THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT BUT I OFTEN COMBINE IMAGES IN ORDER TO CREATE A MORE INTERESTING OR AESTHETIC COMPOSITION. MY GOAL IS TO PRESENT THE BIRDS AND ANIMALS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS TO ALLOW THE VIEWER TO APPRECIATE THE CREATURE AND THE CREATOR.

NOTE: When you look at an image formatted for gallery wrap it sometimes appears the border area is too wide. This is because the image has been formatted to allow about two inches to wrap around the sides without detracting from the main subject. For instance, an 11x14 gallery wrap is made from an image formatted to 15x18 inches so two inches can wrap around the sides producing the 3-D effect that make gallery wraps so impressive.

THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE FROM A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS BUT MOST ARE FROM SISKIYOU COUNTY WHERE MT. SHASTA LOOMS PROMINENTLY IN THE LANDSCAPE. SOME OF THE IMAGES ARE FROM THE RANCH WHERE I GREW UP AND WHICH IS THE SUBJECT OF MY BOOK, LIFE AT THE END OF A DIRT ROAD.

I OFTEN TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHAT PHOTOGRAPHERS CALL THE "GOLDEN HOUR" - THE HOUR AROUND SUNRISE OR SUNSET. I LOVE THE SHADOWS AND COLORS THAT COME WITH THAT TIME OF DAY.

DOG AND PONY SHOW PARADE

The annual DOG AND PONY SHOW PARADE is a lot of fun and an and example of the spirit of the people who make McCloud sucn an interesting and fun place to visit. As you can see, the town not only has character but it has its share of characters. The parade is held each year on the Satureday following Thanksgiving.

The images in this gallery were taken at the JH GUEST RANCH or along French Creek Road leading to the ranch.

I often find a single captured image has more to offer than can be presented in a single view. Therefore, I often post multiple crops and treatments of an image in order to emphasize various elements, moods or aesthetic aspects inherent in the image. The alternative treatments may also suggest different applications for the image. A single image may have potential as a fine art print or as a post card, a T-shirt, or for web or brochure use.
